Media abuse of the term "pit bull", along with the public lust for a fantastic villian, ensure that offences like the recent attack on a three-yr-old by a mix breed dog in Surrey, continue.

Media profit, public emotion and political popularity draw all significant resources from addressing the ultimate cause of dog attacks.

If we really cared about these helpless child victims, substantial legislation reflecting our knowledge, would target dysfunctional owners
